Audi set to launch A8

Top spec: Audi's A8 will have an extensive standard specification list.

Audi takes on luxury kings with the all-new A8

8 Jul 2003

AUDI will launch its all-new A8 "sports limousine" in Australia on August 20 following the confirmation of production of the first 50 locally-specified examples.

Two V8-powered, quattro all-wheel drive versions of the third generation, aluminium-bodied A8 will be offered here, including the $173,900 A8 3.7 quattro and the $206,900 4.2 quattro.

Audi Australia managing director Graham Hardy says the company expects to sell around 70 units in 2003, with the full year of 2004 realising around 100 units - a four-fold increase in sales over its predecessor.

An extensive standard specification list will help A8 to take on the likes of 7 Series and S-class in the luxury D segment, and will include Multi-Media Interface (MMI), Adaptive Air Suspension, Audi's Electronic Stabilisation Program with anti-slip regulation, electronic differential lock, anti-lock braking with brake assist, servotronic speed-sensitive power steering, electric servo boot-closing mechanism, Audi's Advanced Front-Lighting System, LED lighting technology, Xenon Plus headlights, Audi's Advanced Key system, electric leather seats, electric steering column, multi-function steering wheel with Tiptronic paddles, DVD-based navigation system and active front head restraints.
