VE pricing no surprise: Mitsubishi

Mitsubishi says Holden's VE Commodore pricing takes the pressure off its 380 sedan

4 Aug 2006

MITSUBISHI Australia chief executive Robert McEniry believes Holden’s pricing of the VE Commodore – which starts from $34,490 – is unsurprising and has taken the pressure of Mitsubishi’s 380 large car.

"The pricing wasn’t a surprise to me at all," he told GoAuto.

"It certainly takes the pressure off the 380 – there’s no doubt about that." Mr McEniry said 380 pricing – which starts from $29,990 (auto) – would hold firm.

"I think one of the early issues ... was that it had been positioned as a large-large car against those two competitors (Commodore and Falcon), when in fact it wasn’t, and it’s not," he said.

"Part of the repositioning we undertook was to try and separate it and position it more against the Camry V6 and imports in particular, and cut out a niche more in that area." Toyota's new Camry four-cylinder starts from $28,000.
