Two Mazda dealers at top of tree for 20 years

Top notch: Representatives of 17 Mazda dealerships were acknowledged for their “outstanding achievements throughout 2013”.

Grand Prix Mazda and Wippells Autos win 20th straight ‘master dealer’ award

13 Mar 2014

QUEENSLAND dealerships Grand Prix Mazda and Wippells Autos again featured in the Japanese brand’s annual Master Dealer Excellence Awards program, each securing master dealer status for the 20th consecutive year in the program that has been running since 1994.

At an awards presentation in Brisbane last week, 17 dealers from Mazda’s 127-outlet retail network received excellence awards for their performance in 2013, which is judged across areas including customer satisfaction, business performance, facilities and “compliance with Mazda Australia business standards”.

Key Motors joined Grand Prix and Wippells as Queensland award recipients, while Victoria secured five awards with Max Kirwan Mazda, Ringwood Mazda, Bendigo Mazda, Graeme Powell Mazda and Werribee Mazda.

New South Wales and South Australia claimed four each – the top NSW dealers were Hornsby Mazda, John Newell Mazda, West End Mazda and Goulburn Mazda, while SA’s City Mazda, HV Motors, Paradise Motors Mazda and Australian Motors Mazda were all recognised.

Launceston Mazda was the sole award recipient from Tasmania there were no dealers in Western Australia, the ACT or the Northern Territory among the 2013 master dealers.

Western Australia made up 8.4 per cent of Mazda’s overall sales last year.

Mazda Australia’s senior manager of public relations Steve Maciver said ongoing development and improvement of the dealer network “is something we continually look at nationally, not just in WA”.

He added that the company was looking for expressions of interest for an open point for a new dealer in Rockingham, south-west of Perth.

Mazda remains Australia’s leading full-import brand, last year selling more than 100,000 new vehicles for the second consecutive year.

The 103,144 new registrations recorded in 2013 were lineball with the previous year and enough for a 9.1 per cent share of the market and third place overall behind Toyota and Holden.

Mazda was also the top-ranking brand in the influential 2013 JD Power Customer Service Index study, which measures Australian new-vehicle buyer satisfaction in the aftersales service process and is an important indicator of dealer network operations.

Mazda Australia managing director Martin Benders said: “The Master Dealer Excellence Awards give us the opportunity to recognise and appreciate the dedication and hard work of our best performing dealers across the nation each year, without which Mazda’s success would not be possible.”
