New York Auto Show: Hot wheels in the Big Apple

17 Mar 2011

By THE GOAUTO TEAM in NEW YORK

TITLE: New York International Auto Show (NYAIS)WHERE: New York City, USA

WHEN: Late March/Early April annuallyNEXT: April 6-15 2012STATUS: The Big Apple Show but not quite Big Apple statusThe New York motor show has gained in popularity over the last few years simply because, for some car manufacturers, the Geneva Motor Show is on too early (or has too many new model launches) and the wait for the next big international motor in September is too long.

Lately a few big international launches have occurred at the NYAIS, but basically it is a regional US event showcasing models that are quite specific to the north east corner of North America.

The show timing is tied to the Easter holiday, and normally kicks off just before Good Friday.

The New York event has a long history dating back to 1900 and, unlike many other motor shows around the world, has been held for more than 100 years without interruption despite the Depression and both world wars.

It is held at the Jacob Javits Convention Centre beside the Hudson River on Manhattan.
