Subaru confirms more details of Crosstrek small SUV; in showrooms from 2023

17 Oct 2022

SUBARU has confirmed that its new-generation XV small SUV will adopt the global nameplate of Crosstrek when it arrives in Australia next year.

The Japanese importer said the 10-year-old XV nameplate will be phased out as it “redefines” its category entrant, detailing engine and safety specifications for the new range ahead of its end-of-year unveiling.

Subaru Australia said the Crosstrek will be powered by a 2.0-litre horizontally opposed four-cylinder petrol engine paired exclusively to an eight step continuously variable transmission (CVT) with paddle shifters.

The model will also be available with Subaru’s petrol-electric e-Boxer hybrid driveline, mirroring choices offered in other markets, including the United States.

Built on the existing Subaru Global Platform – which underpins models including the new Impreza – the Crosstrek will feature safety technologies including those offered as part of Subaru’s latest EyeSight Driver Assist system and Drive Monitoring System to offer what it says is “another layer of safety to help reduce the chance of accidents”.

All Crosstrek variants offered locally will be equipped as standard with nine airbags and Subaru’s acclaimed symmetrical all-wheel drive system.

Subaru said the new Crosstrek represents a step-change in driver and passenger ergonomics and comfort and takes a human-centred design approach that has been “years in development”.

Constructed in collaboration with medical schools, Subaru designers studied the structure and movement of the human body to design a small SUV cockpit “that delivers advanced comfort, sound ergonomics and an intuitive connection between the driver, vehicle, and the road”.

The cabin includes what Subaru says is an intuitive infotainment system to increase user-friendliness and convenience. The array features an 11.6-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and inductive smartphone charging.

“We’re excited to confirm the next-generation XV is coming to Australia soon, and it will carry the Crosstrek nameplate,” said Subaru Australia managing director, Blair Read.

“The new name embodies what the Crosstrek does and is, an all-wheel drive crossover small SUV that's capable of trekking almost anywhere you please, whether that's urban driving or outdoor adventures, with absolute confidence and enjoyment.

“The all-new Subaru Crosstrek SUV encapsulates an active lifestyle, through its distinctive exterior design and drivability, and offers plenty of versatility meaning its skilled to take on any adventure with a sense of ease.”

Mr Read said that more information regarding Australian specification for this model will be revealed in the coming months.
