Cayman ripe for stripes

Limited: Only 777 Design Edition 1 Cayman S models will be built

Porsche releases a special edition Cayman S complete with bonnet stripes

20 Aug 2007

RACING stripes are usually associated with models like the FPV muscle cars in Australia, but it seems the Germans also think the time is right for stripes.

Porsche is building a limited run of Cayman S coupes which will sport silver stripes than run down the bonnet and over the roof as well as side stripes for the doors.

The Porsche Design Edition 1, which makes its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month, will only be available in black.

Only 777 will be made and a handful will come to Australia, with each car costing $172,900, which is $24,400 more than the regular Cayman S.

Thankfully, you get a bit more for your dough than just the stripes, including the Porsche Active Suspension Management system, different interior trim, reworked instrument cluster and new wheels.

The interior of the special Cayman S features black leather and Alcantara trim including Porsche logos on the headrests, while Alcantara is also used to line the roof, centre console, dashboard, door trims, handbrake lever and gear lever.

Adding the PASM adaptive suspension system has also allowed for the special Cayman S to have a 10mm lower ride height, which helps give the car a more aggressive stance.

Also helping cap off the muscular appearance are the unique 19-inch alloy wheels.

But wait, there’s more.

Instead of offering a set of steak knifes to seal the deal, Porsche is throwing in a special case of Porsche Design gear, also in black, which includes a briefcase, watch, pocket knife, sunglasses and pen.
