Mazda CX-5 surpasses five million global sales

Official count sees Mazda CX-5 surpass five million global sales, including 327,473 in Australia

3 Feb 2026

MAZDA’S popular CX-5 mid-sized SUV has officially surpassed five million cumulative global sales since production commenced back in 2012.

The milestone places the CX-5 in exclusive company within the Mazda Motor Corporation, the model only the third to surpass the five-million sales market alongside the 323 and Mazda3.

To date, the CX-5 has been sold in more than 100 countries and regions worldwide, including in Australia where it remains a segment favourite.

Australian buyers have purchased 327,472 copies of the Mazda CX-5 since launch, meaning our market accounts for 6.6 per cent of all CX-5 sales to date.

The model spent seven years as Australia’s best-selling Medium segment SUV (2013-19, see table below).

Over the same timeframe, Mazda has sold over 1.44 million vehicles in Australia, which means the CX-5 has accounted for 22.8 per cent of all Mazda model sales since 2012.

Speaking on the sales success of the Mazda CX-5, Mazda Motor Corporation CX-5 program manager Koichiro Yamaguchi said the vehicle’s practicality, comfort, and design have played a key part in its global success.

“We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all customer and fans around the world who have supported the CX-5,” he remarked.

“The all-new CX-5 has been fully changed in eight years, further refining its sporty design and driving dynamics.

“It offers a spacious cabin where all passengers can enjoy comfort and east, along with a redesigned Human-Machine Interface.

“Meticulously focused on daily usability, it has evolved into a new-generation SUV that makes driving more comfortable and life itself richer.

“We will continue to nurture the CX-5 carefully, aiming for it to be cherished for years to come.”
