Lynk & Co uncovers 03 sedan

First passenger car from Chinese Lynk & Co shown as 03 small sedan

6 Aug 2018

GEELY-OWNED Chinese start-up Lynk & Co has revealed its first non-SUV model, the 03 sedan, that will make its public debut at next month’s Chengdu motor show.

Underpinned by the same Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) as the Volvo XC40, next-generation V40 and the Lynk & Co 01 and 02 models, the 03 sports near identical styling to its concept forebear revealed at last year’s Shanghai motor show.

The front still features slim headlights and a wide grille, but the production version wears a chiselled lower fascia, as well as body-coloured A-pillars and roof in lieu of the black components of the concept.

Lynk & Co’s unique tail-light design adorns the derriere of the four-door sedan, while the lower rear bumper now wears a more conventional diffuser and dual exhaust exit set-up.

No interior pictures have been released, but expect to see the 03 feature same tablet-style infotainment system, minimal switchgear and digital instrumentation as its 01 and 02 siblings, as well as the Volvo XC40.

Little else is known about the production sedan, but UK-publication Autocar is reporting that the 03 will be powered by the same 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engines offered in the XC40.

Under the bonnet of the Swedish crossover, the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol three cylinder produces 115kW of power and 265Nm of torque, while the 2.0-litre unit outputs between 140-185kW/300-350Nm.

In future, expect to also see a plug-in hybrid powertrain in line with Geely and Volvo’s electrification strategy.

Dimensions are still unknown, but the 03 is likely to fall in line with other premium small sedans including the Audi A3, recently-revealed Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan and Chinese-market-only BMW 1 Series four door.

The Lynk & Co 03 is also expected to be a cousin to the production Volvo S40 small sedan that was previewed by the 40.2 concept in May 2016.
