HYUNDAI has announced details and pricing for its first Light SUV segment electric vehicle, the Inster.
Priced from $39,000 plus on-road costs, the Inster is said to deliver a stylish, futuristic design inside and out, while offering ample driving range and an array of leading-edge technologies in a smart, compact package.
The 2025 Hyundai Inster is powered by a single electric motor driving the front wheels with 71kW/147Nm on offer in the Standard Range variant and 85kW/147Nm in the Extended Range.
Power is stored in a 42kWh battery for Standard Range variants and a 49kWh unit in the Extended Range. Hyundai quotes respective driving range distances of 327km and 360km, and a 10-80 per cent recharging time of as little as 30 minutes when utilising a 120kW DC fast charger.
AC charging is available at up to 10.5kW with a quoted recharging time of up to four hours and 36 minutes.
The Standard Range Inster offers a 0-100km/h time of 11.7 seconds while the Extended Range can complete the sprint in 10.6 seconds. Maximum speeds are quoted at 140km/h and 150km/h respectively.
All grades offer regenerative braking capabilities and vehicle-to-load (V2L) charging.
Locally, the Inster is offered in three trim levels: the Standard Range, Extended Range, and Extended Range Cross. All feature round LED headlighting, pixel-graphic turn signals, and a “muscular” skid plate, with the bumper said to be inspired by a circuit board. Alloy wheel choices range from 15- to 17 inches in diameter, the wheel arches topped with distinctive cladding said to accentuate the Inster’s signature SUV silhouette.
At the rear, the Inster features Parametric Pixel LED combination lights, rectangular LED turn signals, and circular reflectors, while a silver skid plate complements that found up front.
The Inster is offered in six new paint colours headlined by Buttercream Yellow for Inster and Amazonas Green for the Inster Cross. Other options include Atlas White, Natural Ivory, and Urban Khaki solid hues, Abyss Black mica ($595), Sienna Orange metallic ($595), and Aero Silver or Dusk Blue metallic matte ($1000).
The Inster Cross is further offered with a two-tone roof and no-cost-option Roof Basket.
Moving inside, the four-seat Inster is headlined by dual 10.25-inch infotainment and instrumentation screens, native satellite navigation, 50:50 split-fold rear seats, a bench-style front seat, compact centre console, and more.
The Inster Cross adds the ability to fold all four seats flat.
Elsewhere, equipment highlights include Hyundai Bluelink Connected Car Services (whose subscription is complimentary for five years), wireless device charging, over-the-air software updates, and grade-dependant recycled PET or bio-artificial leather upholstery.
Cargo space is listed at 280 litres with the rear seats in place.
Hyundai Smartsense safety technologies are offered across the range with highlights including adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking with cyclist and pedestrian detection and junction assist, blind-spot monitoring, driver attention warning, high beam assist, highway driving assist, in-cabin camera, lane follow assist, lane keep assist, rear cross-traffic avoidance, rear occupant alert, safe exit warning, and 360-degree camera system (Cross variant).
“The all-new Inster distils the progressive style and advanced technology of the award-winning Hyundai EV range into a striking compact SUV, which we’re excited to add to our local line-up,” said Hyundai Motor Company Australia chief executive officer Don Romano.
“The Inster presents a compelling package for customers seeking an attainable, feature-packed compact electric vehicle, making it a versatile choice for both city commuters and those looking to explore beyond urban limits.”
As with all Hyundai passenger vehicles, the Inster is backed by a comprehensive five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty with included eight-year/160,000km high-voltage battery warranty.
