VOLVO has put its cards firmly on the table with the new XC90 large luxury SUV it’s moving upmarket and is now more Range Rover than Land Rover, more Q7 than Touareg.

At more than $100,000 for the T6 Inscription variant tested here, we’d hope so. And it’s not even the most expensive one Volvo offers.

Rejuvenated by Chinese money and following up the original XC90 after 13 long years on the market, Volvo has stepped straight into the 21st Century with a hi-tech product that is very much of its time.

But is it good enough to beat the other European luxury big guns at their own game?
