Melbourne show: Volvo vies with V70

BY JAMES STANFORD | 3rd Mar 2008

VOLVO Car Australia launched its potent T6 V70 luxury wagon in Melbourne this morning.

Instead of introducing a full V70 range, Volvo will stick with a single high-performance version – priced from $67,950 – that runs the new 3.0-litre turbo inline six-cylinder petrol engine with 210kW and 400Nm of torque.

The AWD loadlugger, which runs a six-speed automatic, can dash from 0-100km/h in 7.2 seconds.

The T6 comes with Ohlins active sports suspension, a premium sound system, front and rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers and self-opening tailgate.

The Swedish marque also presented a sporty version of its S80 V8 wearing a full suite of Heico Sportiv accessories.

Key components of the concept included a four-pipe exhaust system and exclusive Heico Sportiv Volution 19-inch alloy wheels.

Volvo will measure reaction to the Heico products at the show and consider making them available on a range of Volvos in Australia.
