Volvo's styling is more rounded than before, but the wagon retains its distinctive "high mounted" tail-lights The V70's rigid safety cage is stronger than that of its predecessor Car shares its front-wheel drive platform with the flagship S80 sedan The V70 seats five adults, with dual rear-facing seats in the rear for children optional The driver's seat is electrically adjustable, incorporating a memory for specific settings that includes the rear-view mirrors The front seats are designed to protect passengers from whiplash injuries by cradling the spine from head to coccyx in a rear impact The 2.4T's sound system has four 50-watt amplifiers and eight speakers The console includes a radio/cassette with a single-disc CD player Climate control air-conditioning is standard Air flowing into the V70 passes through a particle filter and an active carbon filter to remove pollen and pollutant gases The 2.4T uses 6.5Jx16 alloy wheels with 205/55R16 steel belted radial ply tyres The wagon comes with a cargo cover to hide valuables The double-folding split rear seat contains safety netting to restrain items being carried in the luggage area Two child booster seats are built into the rear seat lower cushions The V70 comes with front and side airbags, as well as curtain bags that protect against head injuries in side impacts The front airbags inflate to 70 per cent of full capacity in less severe frontal Impacts The curtain airbags remain inflated for more than three seconds to provide head protection in a collision sequence The V70 has three-point seatbelts in all five seats, as well as head restraints for all three rear seat passengers The front seats incorporate Volvo's anti-whiplash (WHIPS) design The 2.4-litre, five-cylinder turbocharged engine generates 147kW at 6000 rpm and 285Nm between 1800 and 5000rpm The turbo engines use continuously variable valve timing on the exhaust camshaft to enhance power characteristics and reduce fuel consumption Reduced reciprocating masses and lower internal friction mean the engine runs more efficiently than before The V70 has fully independent suspension, with MacPherson struts at the front, and a coil-spring multi-link layout at the rear The V70 is available with self-levelling rear suspension A five-speed auto with "Geartronic" manual-shift capability is offered as an option The V70 has four-wheel disc brakes, ventilated at the front and solid at the rear Four-channel anti-lock is standard
