VOLVO shook off its image as a brand that only made safe cars for sensible people long ago. A new marketing strategy and line-up of sporty and adventure-orientated vehicles helped changed perceptions of the ‘Volvo Driver’.

Now decades on this evolution has produced the current Volvo range and sitting at the top of the species are those cars developed by the independent high-performance tuning and racing company Polestar.

The S60 Polestar sedan launched in Australia in mid-2013 as a limited edition to test the waters with the performance car-loving locals before being sold in other countries. This was followed by another special edition of the car and its sales success helped green light a MY15 model and its load-lugging sibling the V60 wagon which arrived in late 2014 ready to take on Audi S4 Avant.

The V60 Polestar recently moved in to live with us for a week and we soon discovered its mighty strengths and the areas in which it could improve.

So, is it up to taking on Audi’s S4 Avant and other premium wagons?
