THE poor farmer didn’t know what to do with himself.

You couldn’t help but catch the bemused look on his face, staring out from behind his front fence as our convoy of four electric blue sports sedans slowly rumbled past.

But here’s where the familiar tale takes a detour, because we were behind the wheel of a Volvo – but not any Volvo, rather one that is tasked with showing the world the company can do sporty as well as safety.

The result is a tanned and toned new S60 flagship – a $110k Swedish performance sedan pitched at illustrious rivals such as the BMW 335i and even – in Volvo’s own words – the M3.

To do this, the company wrangled in independent tuning house Polestar, which has worked on numerous bonkers Volvo racecars and offers official tuning kits, and sent the first 50 anywhere in the world to Australia for a trial run.

We are, after all, a nation of petrol-heads.

Polestar will gauge the reaction from our market before plotting its next move – so what’s Volvo S60 Polestar like?
