THE Volvo C30 has a new, more affordable diesel engine. Replacing the potent five-cylinder D5 diesel has pushed the C30 diesel price well below the $40,000 mark. It might be cheaper, but the 2.0-litre is still quite capable with 100kW and 320Nm of torque. Volvo has teamed the new powerplant with a six-speed dual clutch automatic, which is standard. The combination of the new engine and transmission results in an impressive fuel consumption average of 5.9 litres per 100km.
