VW diesel scandal: Winterkorn steps down

- Martin Winterkorn, Volkswagen chairman and CEO, has stepped down effective immediately amidst the unfolding diesel emissions scandal.

- Although denying prior knowledge of wrongdoing, Mr Winterkorn has elected to step aside and give VW “a fresh start”.
