FIVE-SPEED tiptronic automatic transmission is standard in the 2.8 Syncro. The driver can selected either full-auto mode, or select ratios manually. The all-wheel drive Syncro driveline incorporates an Electronic Differential Lock (EDL) to act as a starting aid when road conditions are poor. EDL operates by means of an ABS-controlled brake application in which a difference in wheel speeds is detected as a result of one wheel having less grip than the others.

The wheel with a tendency to spin is braked and the power redistributed to the wheels with better grip.
