VW claims particularly high crash safety standards with all its models. Passive safety features for the Passat include twin front airbags, while front side airbags are also standard. Special reinforcements and structural members also contribute to the structural safety of Passat. All four doors contain multiple anti-intrusion tubes, each bar locking into the frame to spread impact throughout the body shell. All five seats are fitted with headrests and three point seat belts, four of which are fitted with Volkswagen's pretensioner/belt limiter.
