AT night the Golf puts on a show, its instruments backlit with psychedelic blue and the needles illuminated in red. The presentation is more akin to the neon lights of Las Vegas than a conventional cockpit display. A two-line LCD panel indicates the mileage and trip meter. The speedo increments of 10km/h, typical EU highlights at 30km/h and 50km/h and lettering with 20km/h intervals do little to assist the driver at around-town speeds. A twin cup holder appears when the symbol on the front of the cover is pressed.
