THE Europeans have marched onto hallowed Australian panel van territory with the likes of the Volkswagen Caddy Maxi, combining car-like driveability with real cargo carrying capability, and then spicing things up with diesel engine and stability control availability. So while the Maxi isn’t exactly as alluring (or morally dangerous) as a Holden Sandman panel van of the Alvin Purple era, it can certainly provide other sorts of pleasures.
