THE New Beetle's suspension is lifted straight out of the VW Golf, using MacPherson struts at the front and an effective torsion beam arrangement at the rear. Here, the coils and shock absorbers are mounted separately and there is an anti-roll bar to control body lean while cornering. A toe-correcting action in the rear suspension allows a certain amount of passive rear-end "steer" that helps keep the car stable in corners.
