Volkswagen launches Amarok V6 580SE from $67,490

VOLKSWAGEN Group Australia (VGA) has very quietly introduced a new limited-edition version of its Amarok dual-cab pickup truck, officially dubbed the Amarok V6 580SE.

Set to arrive in local showrooms from December, the 580SE will be limited to just 200 units nationally, each carrying a sticker price of $67,490 plus on-road costs.

Based on the Highline trim level, the 580SE’s pricetag slots it underneath the top-spec Ultimate in terms of both price and specification.

Powered by the same 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 as the rest of the Amarok V6 range, peak power and torque are rated at 190kW (200kW on overboost) and 580Nm respectively with drive sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Three paint colours will be available to choose from – black, grey or white – with the biggest giveaway of the 580SE’s identity being its 20-inch ‘Talca’ black alloy wheels.

Other visual cues include a body-coloured moulded sports bar, bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, black sidesteps and a UV resistant load liner.

Inside the cabin is a ‘premium colour’ dash, heated Art Velour upholstered seats, black headliner and pillar trims as well as paddle shifters.

According to a VGA spokesperson, the 580SE would offer something different to the rest of the range and was sure to be popular.

“While many of our customers typically make the same decision – that is, to jump into a V6 Amarok, it’s great to be able to offer something a bit different in our range.

“The 580SE is instantly recognisable with its aggressive on-road stance and styling, and we think it’ll be a hit with our fans and customers.”

Through the first nine months of 2020, VGA sold 5289 Amarok 4x4s nationally, accounting for 4.9 per cent of the ever-popular off-road pickup truck segment.
