THE 100 Series introduced a rack and pinion steering system to LandCruiser, but limited it to the GXV grade. The RV and GXL use a variable-ratio ball and nut system. Turns lock to lock for GXV measures 3.8, with the lower series at 3.4.

Both systems are engine-speed sensitive. The steering gear ratio for GXV is 18.58:1, and 19.80:1 for RV.
