TOYOTA hit the mark when it introduced the medium-sized Prado 4WD in Australia in 1997. Not as big and bulky - or as expensive - as the LandCruiser and being perhaps the most car-like of all "proper" 4WDs to drive, the Prado also benefits from its Toyota badge that implies solidity and reliability. Wide wheel arches on the upmarket models help to relieve a slightly tall and narrow look, as do the chunky alloy wheels that are standard on the top of the range turbo diesel, the TX.
