TOYOTA’S Kluger soft-roader has various targets in mind, but its most significant would seem to be the increasingly vulnerable, conventional family station wagon. The Lexus RX330-based 4WD covers a pretty wide slice of the new vehicle market, but it’s the base-level CV model that should change a few minds about where the logical choices lie when family car decisions are being made. It offers brisk V6 performance, full-time 4WD stability and a usefully large, well appointed interior for about the same price as a regular, car-based wagon. Ironically, the Kluger also offers up a few arguments that could make potential Toyota Prado customers think twice as well.
