Toyota plugs in

TOYOTA has developed a plug-in petrol-electric hybrid vehicle that is certified for use on public roads in Japan, where it will commence testing before widening its application to the United States and Europe.

Achieving certification ahead of GM’s Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid, Toyota will run a test fleet comprising eight plug-in hybrids that use household electricity as their power source and feature a higher (nickel metal hydride) battery capacity than current Toyota hybrids such as the Prius.
