IT'S virtually impossible to ignore the fact here's a new Toyota HiLux on Australian roads. Looking a little awkward with bulbous cab shapes, tiny wheel arches and seemingly even tinier wheels, the new Toyota workhorse looks lost somewhere between workhorse practicality and Yaris-style body contortions. But it's a lot bigger, the new Toyota, particularly in double-cab 4WD form where it appears to approaching Ford's massive F150 even if in reality it's nowhere close. The new HiLux, as you would expect, does everything better than the previous model - a point noticeable in the double-cab where it now presents sedan car-like passenger space, yet still gains extra load capacity. In top-of-the-range, turbo-diesel 4WD SR5 form, it's a powerful, yet economical beast that inspires nothing but respect.
