Toyota prices tenth anniversary GR86

TOYOTA is set to celebrate 10 years of the 86 with the release of its GR86 10th Anniversary Edition variant in Australia.

Priced from $46,700 plus on-road costs ($1310 more than the GTS) and available with manual or automatic transmissions, just 86 examples of the commemorative sports coupe will be offered, arriving in local showrooms from this month.

Toyota’s Gazoo Racing Club members were offered first dibs on the opportunity to purchase an example of the anniversary model, the remainder being made available to the general public from March 23.

Based upon the top-of-the-range GTS variant, the 10th Anniversary Edition GR86 is characterised by Solar Orange paint – a nod to the hero colour of the original model launched back in 2011 – and an orange interior theme, with contrasting stitching applied to the steering wheel, shift boot, handbrake boot, upholstery and door card trim.

Orange stripe accents also appear on the Ultrasuede and leather accented sports seats, with a 10th Anniversary logo embroidered on the door trims.

The only other point of differentiation between the GR86 10th Anniversary Edition and the derivative model is a blackened instrument panel moulding in lieu of standard silver.

Otherwise, the 10th Anniversary Edition is unchanged from the regular GR86 GTS. It carries over the model’s black 18-inch alloy wheels, adaptive LED headlights, heated front seats, aluminium pedals, 8.0-inch infotainment array, 7.0-inch instrumentation screen and dual-zone climate control as standard issue.

Like all GR86 grades, the limited-edition variant is powered by a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine developing 174kW at 7000rpm and 250Nm at 3700rpm. Six-speed manual or automatic transmissions are available with drive being sent to the rear wheels via a Torsen limited-slip differential.

“When it launched in 2012, the first-generation 86 struck a chord with those looking for an affordable sports car representing great value with Toyota reliability,” said Toyota Australia vice president of sales, marketing and franchise operations Sean Hanley.

“This new 10th Anniversary Edition channels the spirit of the original 86 while introducing a range of unique design touches, along with all upgrades that the GR86 delivered when we launched it last year.”

The arrival of the 10th Anniversary GR86 follows the sell-out success of the Toyota’s twin-under-the-skin Subaru BRZ 10thAnniversary Edition late last year.

Subaru offered 150 examples of its commemorative variant in late August 2022 and all were sold by early October.
