NOT satisfied with market dominance, Toyota has added another weapon to its already powerful SUV arsenal with the wagon version of the new-gen HiLux.

Dubbed Fortuner, the diesel-only seven-seater offers a three-model line-up in manual and automatic guises, boasting pricing that slots it into the range alongside the road-biased petrol-only Kluger.

The new model also fires a shot across the Ford equivalent – the Ranger-based Everest – with prices starting from $5000 cheaper. Both models boast Australian input and ingenuity in respective development phases.

The new arrival from the dominant force in the SUV segment and the Australian market does enough to suggest the Ford, as well as the Holden Colorado7 and Isuzu MU-X, all have cause for concern.
