ALL Echo models use a constant-ratio rack-and-pinion steering system. Sportivo models have engine-speed sensitive power assistance fitted standard the base Echo hatches have it available as an option. The sedan also has it standard. The turning circle is 9.8 metres and Toyota claims the steering rack is mounted low - on the subframe - to minimise bump steer.
