TOYOTA claims the Echo was designed to meet tough international crash tests, and independent evaluations have shown the car (with dual airbags fitted) does indeed perform well in certain frontal offset and side-impact collisions. The car came under Toyota's Global Outstanding Assessment (GOA) process, which aims to exceed current and anticipated safety standards and designs. A driver's airbag is standard on all Echo models, with a number of other important safety features lumped into an optional safety pack that comprises a front passenger's airbag and force-limiting seatbelt pretensioner, plus anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution.
