TOYOTA Echo uses constant-ratio rack and pinion steering. The steering rack is mounted low, on the sub frame, to minimise bump steer. Power assistance, which is engine-speed sensitive, is optional on all hatch models and standard on the Echo sedan. The turning circle is 9.8 metres and turns lock to lock total 3.6.
