BORROWING angular, aggressive styling from Toyota’s youth-oriented Scion brand in North American markets, the flagship of the Australian Corolla hatch range looks like it means business and very Gen-Y – especially with its darkness piercing LED headlights.

The theme continues inside, with a newly integrated central touchscreen surrounded by cool blue switchgear illumination and a colourful multi-function display graphics between the dials.

It shows how much can be done cosmetically to elevate a car with a dull-but-dependable reputation into an object of desire.

We spent a week with the facelifted Corolla ZR to see if the beauty is more than skin deep.
