THE Corolla nameplate has now been around for 50 years and Toyota has celebrated, in its typically minimalist way, by mildly evolving the sedan version of its venerable small car.

Airport car rental desks will be positively quaking to the sound of popping champagne corks at this news.

Joking aside, the entire Corolla range has now picked up autonomous emergency braking and forward collision warning tech as standard, with further bingle-busting goodies available at extra cost on lesser models such as the mid-level SX tested here, and as standard fitment on the top-spec ZR.
