Corolla gets sporty for a limited time

BY JAMES STANFORD | 16th Jul 2010

TOYOTA has launched a limited-edition Corolla Ascent hatch, the Sport, adding alloy wheels, a body kit and a range of extra interior equipment with a total a value of $1600.

The Sport – in a limited production run of 1500 units – will cost $510 more than the standard Ascent, which means a recommended retail price of $22,250 for the six-speed manual.

The Sport replaces the Ascent’s 15-inch steel wheels with 16-inch Blade alloy wheels with 205/55 R 15 tyres.

The Sport is also fitted with a special Gen Y sound system head with an upmarket display and joystick, along with hands-free Bluetooth connectivity, USB connectivity and a 3.5mm input jack.

Cruise control and a premium steering wheel are included, as well as front fog lamps, front spoiler, larger rear spoiler and a Sport badge.

Tidal Blue – previously only available for the Levin SX and ZR models – has been added to the colour palette.

A $500 optional safety pack can add two side curtain airbags and a driver’s knee airbag to the existing front passenger and driver front and side airbags.

Like all other Corolla models, the Sport has electronic stability control.
