TOYOTA is confidently claiming that the new Camry is improved enough over the old car in terms of construction to move it up from three stars to a four-star crash test result - although any direct reference to the independent NCAP testing regime is judiciously avoided.

The car has been tested to Toyota's own GOA (Global Outstanding Assessment) parameters which are designed to be as tough as any current or expected crash test standards.

GOA tests endured by Camry included 64km/h offset deformable barrier, rollover, 55km/h side impact and 50km/h rear moving barrier.

While the PBR brakes are new (pictured), standard safety equipment includes ABS and dual airbags - although it should be noted that front seat side airbags, which are standard on all other V6 models, can't be had on the Altise.
