AVALON was the first Toyota in Australia with side airbag availability, though the Conquest grade makes do with a dual front SRS combination. Front seatbelts have pretensioners and force limiters and are, along with the head restraints, adjustable for height. Anti-lock brakes are optional on Conquest and standard on all other models. There are tubular beams in all four doors to provide side-impact protection. All seating positions have a lap-sash seatbelt.
