AS THE Grand Vitara has done since 1998 (and other Suzukis before it), the XL-7 maintains the Suzuki four-wheel drive tradition of excellent off-road performance with features such as a ladder-frame chassis, dual-range transfer case, underbody protection, short overhangs and a high-mounted alternator and air cleaner. It is also sure to appeal with its seven-seat capacity - there are two more pews than others in its price range - and a fair whack of standard equipment. Engine performance is the other strongpoint, the well-regarded V6 seen in the Vitara taken a further step forward with 2.7-litre capacity and power output now hitting 130kW.
