POWERING the XL-7 is a "bored-out" version of the familiar all-aluminium DOHC, 24-valve V6 engine as seen on the Grand Vitara, which has increased in displacement from 2.493-litres to 2.736-litres. The bore has increased 4mm to 88mm. A rear differential gear has also been lowered to provide improved acceleration without a corresponding increase in fuel consumption. Power and torque now rests at 130kW at 6200rpm and 231Nm at 3300rpm. Official acceleration figures are not available. Fuel consumption data for the manual XL-7 points to 11.5L/100km on the city cycle and 3.0 litres less on the highway. The auto adds 0.5L/100km onto each cycle.
