Suzuki sexes up SX4

SUZUKI has sliced at least $1500 from the price of its small SX4 hatchback as part of a range-wide upgrade that sees entry-level front-wheel drive models gain the same chunkier look as AWD models.

Now available for a special introductory price of $19,990 drive-away in all Australian states except Queensland (or $18,990 plus on-road costs – down from $20,490 plus ORCs), the entry-level 2WD manual hatch opens a revised front-drive SX4 range that wears the same wheelarch flares and underbody fenders as the AWD SX4 ‘crossover’ hatch ($21,990 plus ORCs – down $1500).

Likewise, the flagship SX4 2WD S hatch (now $21,990 plus ORCs – down $1500) looks the same as the SX4 AWD S hatch ($24,190 plus ORCs – also down $1500).

A continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) continues to cost an extra $2000 across the all-2.0-litre SX4 range, which was first released in Australia in 2007, while 16-inch alloy wheels and roof-rails are now standard across the line-up.

There are no mechanical changes as part of the 2011 SX4 upgrade, with the most basic six-speed manual model still returning fuel consumption of 7.3L/100km and all models coming standard with six airbags, electronic stability control and a four-star ANCAP safety rating.

S models continue to add keyless starting, cruise control, digital climate control air-conditioning, foglights, a leather-clad steering wheel, nine-speaker sound system and rear roof spoiler. Premium/metallic paint remains a $475 option across the range.

“Our SX4 customers are among our most satisfied and the word continues to spread about the value for money that comes with owning a Suzuki,” said Suzuki Australia general manager Tony Devers.

“Now, with the standardisation of several key features, we are able to offer even better value for the new SX4 range.”“There has never been a better opportunity to get behind the wheel of a new SX4 and become another satisfied member of the Suzuki family.”The SX4 price cuts and 2WD model upgrade follow the fitment of side and curtain airbags and Bluetooth connectivity as standard across the range from February.

SX4 sales are down more than 25 per cent so far this year, in a mainstream small-car class that is 4.5 per cent softer than it was in 2010.
