Suzuki prices Jimny Lite from $26,990 + ORCs

SUZUKI Australia has priced its new entry-level Jimny Lite from $26,990 plus on-road costs, meaning the trimmed down variant will check into showrooms just $1500 downstream of the standard version.

Due to be released on August 1, the Jimny Lite will be available in six colourways – White, Chiffon Ivory (with black roof), Kinetic Yellow (with black roof), Brisk Blue (with black roof), Jungle Green and Medium Grey – with both single- and two-tone metallic finishes costing $695 and $1295 respectively.

As previously reported by GoAuto, customers do surrender certain luxuries with the Lite, the alloy wheels, infotainment system and climate control of higher variants replaced by 15-inch steel wheels, a traditional stereo system and manual air-conditioning controls.

The slimmed-down standard equipment list also includes autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, weaving alert, six airbags, hill-hold, hill descent control, cruise control, electric windows and five-speed manual gearbox.

Despite the lower spec and slightly higher than expected asking price, Jimny fans have responded well to the Lite’s confirmation, according to Suzuki Australia general manager Michael Pachota, who revealed that more than 100 pre-orders placed within a week of its announcement.

“My phone has been ringing off the hook since we confirmed Jimny Lite last week,” he said.

“Dealers are keen to know pricing, ready to place pre-orders to secure customers’ places in the queue.

“As I mentioned earlier in the month, we will maintain the fair allocation process based on customer orders with a queue system as we have done with the current Jimny in 2021, making sure the next order in the queue gets the next car to hit Australian soil, every time.”

No mechanical changes have been made under the skin or bonnet of the Lite, meaning the new variant will share the regular version’s 75kW/130Nm outputs courtesy of the familiar 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine.

Although only available with a manual transmission, the Lite will still include a low-range transfer case as well as hill descent control.

Suzuki has sold 993 Jimnys so far this year ending May, accounting for a modest 4.2 per cent share of the light SUV segment with more than 2000 units currently on back-order.
