THE V6 engine is located longitudinally and, under most circumstances, drives just the rear wheels. The V6 engine generates 106kW at 6200rpm and 208Nm at 3500rpm. The 2.5-litre V6 is a development of the 2.0-litre version used in the Vitara. Both engine block and cylinder heads are cast from light alloy. The heads use a twin camshaft, multi-valve arrangement. The V6 uses an electronically controlled multi-point fuel injection system. Alternator and air cleaner are located high on the engine for protection against mud and water.

Compared to the 2.0-litre version, the engine gets micro-grooved big-end bearings and a hydraulic front engine mount. The twin overhead camshafts operate directly on the valves to minimise the number of working parts.
