UNDER most on-road circumstances, the Grand Vitara operates as a regular rear-wheel drive vehicle. Suzuki's Drive Select 4x4 system allows changes between two and four-wheel drive at speeds up to 100km/h. A five-speed manual transmission is standard. The optional, electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission offers the choice of normal and power modes. The Grand Vitara has the luxury of a transfer case allowing low range to be selected for heavy off-road use. High and low ranges are selected by a separate lever near the gearshift.
