THE Grand Vitara meets current European and US safety standards. The new ladder frame chassis was developed to allow impact absorption in crash situations, also impact-absorbing materials are used in the front pillars and upper trim.

Side impact beams are built into the doors. Driver and passenger air bags are optional as well as anti-lock braking. Front seat belts are height-adjustable and are equipped with pretensioners. The centre rear seatbelt is lap-only.

Four-wheel drive can be selected on the move to enhance grip in slippery conditions.
