Suzuki recalls Grand Vitara

SUZUKI AUSTRALIA has announced a recall on 5486 Grand Vitara SUVs following overseas reports of a potentially faulty internal spring in the engine drive belt tension adjust pulley that could affect the power steering.

The recall affects all 2.4-litre models sold from August 2008 to the present. The 3.2-litre V6 model is not affected.

Suzuki Australia spokesman Andrew Ellis said there have been no reports of any accidents or instances of power steering failure locally.

A faulty spring could cause reduced tension in the belt, leading to the dashboard warning light illuminating.

In a worst case scenario, the belt may become dislodged from the power steering pulley, making steering the vehicle very difficult.

Suzuki will write to owners of all affected vehicles advising them to contact their local dealer for a free inspection and replacement of the tensioner assembly.

The last recall from Suzuki Australia was in 2006, when 3045 Ignis small cars were recalled to check potentially faulty passenger airbags.
