SUBARU’S much-anticipated diesel is finally here, offered in three Outback guises only (for now), along with just one gearbox – a nicely weighted six-speed manual. But don’t let that put you off if auto is your thing, because the 2.0D impresses in a variety of ways that have nothing to do with high fuel economy and low carbon dioxide emissions. For us it is the most impressive version of the new-generation Outback models we have sampled so far, and we predict it might just be yours too if given half a chance.
