DUAL front airbags and front seatbelt pretensioners are fitted as standard equipment on all Impreza models, while the centre rear seat position is equipped with a three-point lap/sash seatbelt. The front seatbelt buckles are mounted on the seats and the upper anchorages are height adjustable. The Impreza performed well in both the frontal offset and side impact crash tests conducted by the Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) when it was last tested in November, 2001, scoring a four-star rating (out of a maximum of five), or 81 per cent. The passenger compartment held its shape well and protection from serious injury was good for the head and acceptable for the chest and legs. The four-star rating was equal with Honda's Civic, but ahead of other small car competitors such as the Ford Laser, Mazda 323, Nissan Pulsar and Daewoo Nubira.
