Subaru passes on hedge savings

SUBARU Australia’s bean counters have enabled it to cut prices of key models while some rivals increase prices.

The importer is cutting $1500 from the price of the Impreza R sedan and hatch, which means it has a starting price of $22,990 for the manual versions.

Subaru has also taken the knife to the Liberty 2.5i Sportshift automatic sedan and wagon, trimming the price by $2000 to $32,990 for the sedan and $34,990 for the wagon.

The price of the Outback 2.5i Sportshift automatic has been reduced $2000 to $36,990.

Subaru Australia managing director Nick Senior said the company was able to offer the reductions thanks to some sound economic policies.

“Our currency hedging has enabled us to pursue this aggressive tactical pricing policy,” he said.

“While other brands are increasing prices, we have a window of opportunity because of our hedging strategy.”While Subaru has been able to cut the prices of some of its models, it concedes that it may have to increase its prices in the future.

“Obviously, with the dramatic drop in the exchange rate of the Australian dollar versus the Yen, we will inevitably have to review prices in the future, but just now we are passing on our good fortune to our customers,” Mr Senior said.
