THE second generation Forester is fitted with an all-new dash and fascia design, which gives the interior a much more contemporary feel to match its newer competitors like Nissan's X-Trail and Honda's second generation CR-V. The quality of the plastics and materials used in the new car is a big step forward from the previous model as well, which goes a long way to improving the overall ambience and refinement of the interior. First generation Forester and Impreza models shared the same dash and fascia design, but the new Forester now has its own unique dash and console compared to the second generation Impreza models. But certain elements are shared between the two, such as the double-form hooded binnacle and the basic instrument panel. The old car's four-dial instrument cluster (two large dials for speedometer and tachometer with a smaller dial on either side for fuel and engine temperature) has been replaced by a three-dial cluster, with the speedo prominent in the centre position and fuel and engine temperature gauges combined in the one dial on the left.
