SsangYong adds Black Edition to Rexton range
SSANGYONG Australia says it has responded to demand for its flagship Rexton by offering a limited-run Black Edition above its Ultimate variant.
Priced from $56,585 drive-away, including metallic paint, the Rexton Black Edition is enhanced by a black grille, with matching bezels for its LED front fog lights, 20-inch alloy wheels and roof rails. The variant otherwise features the same equipment offered on the range-topping Rexton Ultimate.
On sale from August, the Rexton Black Edition is offered in two body colours: Space Black or Pearl White.
The limited-edition variant is equipped with SsangYong’s range-wide suite of safety technologies, including autonomous emergency braking, forward-collision warning, safety-distance warning, lane-change-collision warning, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, tyre pressure monitoring, smart high beam, trailer sway control, a reversing camera and front and rear acoustic parking sensors.
Elsewhere in the Rexton range, the ELX (from $47,990 drive-away) is fitted as standard with seven seats, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED dusk-sensing headlights, LED DRLs and front fog lights, leather-look upholstery, power adjustable, heated and ventilated front seats, leather-trimmed steering wheel, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and an 8.0-inch infotainment array with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
Ultimate variants add a power sunroof and tailgate, quilted Nappa leather upholstery, speed-sensitive power steering, a heated steering wheel, 360-degree camera, wireless phone charger, third-row climate controls, ambient interior lighting and illuminated door scuff plates, as well as keyless entry.
All Rexton variants are powered by SsangYong’s e-XDI 220 turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine displacing 2.2 litres and producing peak outputs of 148kW and 441Nm. The range is offered exclusively with an eight-speed automatic transmission and part-time four-wheel-drive system with high and low-range four-wheel driving and an automatic locking rear differential. Braked towing capacity for the range is rated at 3500kg.
SsangYong Australia says that in 2020, Rexton sales increased by 52 per cent over the previous year and 130 per cent in 2021. Almost three-quarters of buyers opt for the top-spec Ultimate variant, prompting the addition of the Black Edition to the range.
Year-to-date sales of the Rexton sit at 280 units (1.0% share), close to those of the Skoda Kodiaq (242 units and 0.9%) and Jeep Wrangler (255 units and 0.9%).
“The Rexton SUV range already offers customers unrivalled levels of luxurious appointments, family-friendly space with the flexibility of seven seats and an impressive 3.5-tonne towing capacity,” said SsangYong Australia national marketing manager Stevan Dimitrovski.
“For a modest $1000 premium over the Rexton Ultimate, this limited edition offers a sense of sophisticated toughness and individuality to our customers.”
